On May 25-26 PACBA and the Polish American Chamber
of Commerce hosted at Rosemont’s Donald E. Stephens
Convention Center the Fifth Polish American
Trade Show. The show was heavily covered by
Polish-American media. Andrzej Paplinski from
Murator, the largest and most respected publisher
for the construction and building industries
in Poland, conducted a series of interviews
with our members and exhibitors. Pat Quinn,
Lieutenant Governor of the State of Illinois,
Poland’s Minister of Economy, Pawel Poncyljusz
and the WTCI Chairman, Neil Hartigan were among
guests for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
There were over one hundred exhibitors both
from Poland and the U.S. Most of the building
and construction firms were represented by PACBA.
During the two-day exhibition PACBA distributed
for gratis to visitors thousand compact fluorescent
light bulbs as a part of the City of Chicago
program to save energy.
Michel Dmyterko, a member of PACBA, delivered
a presentation about contract pricing. Exhibitors
from Poland were particularly interested in
types of contract pricing for industrial and
civic projects. The presentation attended exhibitors
from other sectors who found concepts of contract
pricing prevalent in the construction industry
very much applicable in their businesses.
Visitors had another opportunity to see the
famous float with replicas of a glasshouse,
wood mill, blacksmith shop that members of PACBA
built to reenact the work done by Poles in colonial
Jamestown (www.polacywjamestown.org)
In summary, the show was very well publicized
and organized, and meagerly attended. The Memorial
Day week-end is quoted as the primary reason
for mediocre attendance, especially on Friday,
the first day of the show.
