The Polish
Constitution Day Parade (Photos)
PACBA is well known in the Polish community for
making outstanding units in parades honoring the
Polish Constitution. But this year members of PACBA
surpassed the wildest expectations. PACBA built
a float (87X16 feet in size) with replicas of a
glasshouse, wood mill, blacksmith shop and had live
reenactments of the work done by Poles in Jamestown,
Virginia. Many spectators rushed to pose in front
of the float to make memorable pictures and capture
this unique historical moment.
The
first settlers from Poland arrived in Jamestown
in the fall of 1608 and were instrumental to the
survival of the first permanent colony in the New
World. To honor contributions of Jamestown Poles
and preserve their historical significance in building
the foundations of this nation, the theme for this
year’s parade was Jamestown: Polish-American History.
The
float stirred such an attraction that it will
participate in parades in other cities. New York
City and Philadelphia have already booked the float.
Moreover, many school principals invited the float
to show their students the history lessons about
colonial Jamestown and Poles living in Virginia.
Members of PACBA have been the driving force behind
formation of Polish American Jamestown Committee
(www.polacywjamestown.org).

On June 4, 2009 Lukas
Fuksa, an attorney specializing in the construction
law, presented ramifications of noncompliance with
the Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act. Recent
court rulings have established precedence unfavorable
to persons engaged in remodeling of smaller dwellings.
Contractors can avoid those severe financial consequences
by providing to customers an informational brochure
from the Illinois Attorney General. Specific details
on when contractors must comply
with the Act can be obtained at 312-266-2221.

We are collecting a list of sayings that use words
associated with construction. Naturally, the meanings
are universal. Please email and share with us if
you have a saying in our “genre.”
If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything
looks like a nail.
You cannot get blood out of a brick.

head can get a lot of blood out of you.) Read
